Robotics Engineer

About the Role :

We’re looking for a Robotics Engineer to build the core robotics systems that make LUME move, perceive, and operate reliably in the real world. You’ll work across controls, navigation, localization, mapping, sensor fusion, and low-level software, while working closely with our research team to deploy the latest robotics algorithms onto physical systems.

What You'll Do :

  • Develop controls, navigation, localization, mapping, and motion planning systems

  • Build sensor fusion and state estimation across cameras, depth sensors, IMUs, encoders, and other sensors

  • Integrate motors, actuators, sensors, embedded controllers, and onboard compute

  • Work with researchers to deploy new manipulation, perception, and robot-learning algorithms on real robots

  • Build interfaces between learned policies and low-level robot systems

  • Test, debug, and improve robot performance on physical hardware

  • Develop tools for calibration, logging, testing, and system debugging

  • Help take LUME from prototypes to reliable systems deployed in real homes

  • Work flexible shifts including nights/weekends as needed

What We're Looking For :

  • Strong C++ and Python skills

  • Strong fundamentals in robotics, controls, navigation, localization, mapping, and state estimation

  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2 and common robotics frameworks

  • Experience deploying software on real robotic systems

  • Experience integrating sensors, actuators, motor controllers, and embedded systems

  • Strong debugging skills across software and hardware

  • Comfortable working hands-on with robots and rapidly testing on physical systems

  • Able to lead work with minimal guidance in a fast-moving environment

  • Communicates clearly and concisely

  • From a top 20 global university

Nice to Have :

  • Mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics background

  • Experience with mobile manipulators or autonomous mobile robots

  • Experience with SLAM, motion planning, kinematics, dynamics, and trajectory optimization

  • Experience with CAN, EtherCAT, Jetson, and embedded systems

  • Experience deploying robots outside controlled lab environments

  • Familiarity with manipulation, imitation learning, VLA models, or robot learning

  • Low-ego collaborator who gives and receives kind, actionable feedback

  • Obsessed with thoughtful design; can point to a product that “sparks joy” and say why

  • Loves good food and has a strong opinion on the best burrito within 2 miles (we do team meals)

  • Someone with a chip on their shoulder who gets a thrill from proving doubters wrong

  • Low-ego collaborator who gives and receives kind, actionable feedback

Details :

• Full time and internship (4-month minimum contract) options available
• In person, M–F, 9–6.
• Health benefits included, company holidays, team meals, sick leave, etc.
• Preference given to candidates who can start immediately

How to Apply :

Send your resume and a cover letter with bullet points explaining why you’re the perfect candidate for this role (highlighting relevant experiences, projects, publications, and skills). If someone referred you, please include their name in the application.

If there's something unique about you, please mention it. The clearer and more concise, the better. Make sure to mention your expected start date.
